Monday, July 24

12:00 PM: Southwest Management District Board Meeting at District Office

  • Consider sponsorship request for the Midwest Division for its Back to School Drive.
  • Consider sponsorship request from HPD for the “H-Town Rising Stars” Fundraising Gala.
  • Consider support funding for the Harris County DA Gun Safe Program.
  • Consider agreement with the Harris County Attorney for Nuisance Abatement/Community Protection Program.

BakerRipley invites the community to “join us in celebrating the passage of the people with disabilities law with music, snacks, fun activities, resources, and more.”

5:00* – 7:00 PM: Family Fun Paint Night at Bayland Community Center

Bayland’s event calendar invites the community to “Join an instructor from Colors for Healing and enjoy a family-friendly evening of creative expression.”

*Bayland's event calendar says the event begins at 6:00 PM, but a community center representative said over the phone that it begins at 5:00 PM. Call ahead to confirm the correct time at 713-274-3240.

Thursday, July 27

10:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Free Childhood Vaccinations at BakerRipley Gulfton/Sharpstown Campus

6500 Rookin St, Houston, TX 77074

Harris County Public Health is visiting BakerRipley to provide free childhood immunizations for DTap, Polio, Hep B, Hib, PCV, MMR, Varicella (chickenpox), Hep A, and MCV4, as well as free COVID-19 vaccines to anyone 6 months and older.

No ID, insurance, or citizenship status required. Appointments preferred; walk-ins welcome.

Appointments can be scheduled at 832-927-8787.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Kids' Cafe at Bayland Community Center

Free meals for children under age 18. They do not have to be enrolled in SNAP.

6:00 – 7:30 PM: Family Meeting with HISD Superintendent Mike Miles at Sugar Grove Academy Middle School

An opportunity to learn more about Superintendent Miles’ New Education System, meet him, and ask him questions.

6:00 PM: Financial Literacy Workshop at Prestige Learning Institute (PLI)

Learn about topics like budgeting, savings, loans, and credit in a free workshop led by Solomon Evangelista, certified financial educator. PLI, a non-profit, says that the instructor "won’t be selling any financial products," so this is just free education.

10:00 AM: Mandala Workshop (followed by Kids' Cafe) at Bayland Community Center

Mandala workshop begins at 10 AM; Kids' Cafe begins afterward (around 12:00 or 1:00 PM), with free meals for children under age 18. Kids do not have to be enrolled in SNAP.
