HISD confirmed on Wednesday that Superintendent Mike Miles has replaced Dan De Leon, former principal of Sharpstown High School, with Thomas J. Cotter.

After teaching reading and social studies at HISD’s Gregory-Lincoln Education Center, he served in administration at five different public schools of all grade levels.

First, he became assistant principal at Dowling Middle School (now Lawson Middle School). In 2017, he became assistant principal of Woodson PK-8 Leadership Academy. He then took an AP position at North Forest High School, where he helped boost the school’s accountability ratings, according to HISD’s blog. He then became principal of Wesley Elementary School.

Last year, Cotter was principal of Fondren Middle School in southwest Houston.

Cotter holds a BBA in Marketing from Texas Southern and a Master of Education from the University of Houston.

He has not yet responded to the Sharpener’s July 28 request for an interview.
